Development of Protein Based Pesticide Detection Nanosensor
11th April 2018, Wednesday, 04:00‐04:30 pm (25+5 mins), ChE Seminar hall
Detection of the residual pesticides in raw food products is important due to their effect on human health Present methodology of the detection is based on sophisticated equipment in an authorised laboratory. A user friendly sensor for detection of pesticide is of paramount important.
Nanoparticle and protein based pesticide detection sensors are under consideration for detection of organophosphates in this work. In the protein based sensors, the enzyme acetylcholinesterase and Myoglobin are considered. Acetylcholinesterase binds to organophosphates specifically and results reduction of its own activity. On the other hand iron containing protein Myoglobin may bind to pesticides through iron. These two facts can be utilized for fabrication of sensors. Initial studies have been carried out to analyse the activity of myoglobin and its interaction with pesticides both on surface and in bulk solution.
In the other approach, silver nanoparticle are utilised for detection. The interaction of bare silver nanoparticle with pesticide leads to color change. This is explained and proposed for its utilization in the development of colorimetric sensor.
