Numerical modelling of fluid-particles interactions
Prof. Eric Clément Professor of Fluids Mechanics (Toulouse INP-ENSEEIHT, France) Director of IMFT - Institute of Fluids Mechanics, University of Toulouse, CNRS.

12th January, 2018, Thursday 12;00PM, Seminar Hall, Dept of Chemical Engineering,

ABSTRACT
The speaker will first give a brief overview of the Institute of Fluids Mechanics (www.imft.fr),research topics and experimental facilities. IMFT is a research institute dedicated to Fluids Mechanics (Turbulence, Aerodynamics, Two-Phase flows, Porous Media, Combustion, Hydraulics) composed of 70 faculty members, 35 support staff an d 70 PhD students. It is part of the research federation FERMAT on Energy, Processes, and Material Science. Then, he will focus on his personal research: Numerical modelling of fluid-particle s interactions. In this talk, he will comment on the complex dynamics of particulate flows (solid-liquid suspensions). He will give few examples of academic studies on simple flow geometries to investigate the dynamic response of particle suspension (transition to turbulence of particle suspensions, modulation of turbulence by finite size particles, non-spherical particles an d fibers.
