Using computers to rapidly construct Fabrication-Structure-Property maps:A key step towards optimal material synthesis and design

18th October, Friday, 4:15 pm, ChE Seminar hall

Abstract:

The demand for new materials is endlessly growing - particularly from the important areas of energy and environment. However, experimental materials discovery is bound by high costs and the time-consuming process of synthesis. Even when good materials are available, a crucial input needed while designing a device is the knowledge on how the material(s) may function over a period of time under different synthesis/operating conditions. I will describe strategies we have developed in recent years, which may enable us to identify using computers the optimal synthesis protocol for bimetallic catalysts so that the catalytic activity can be maximized. In particular, I shall focus on deriving mathematical models for Fabrication-Structure and Structure-Property maps.
