Polyoxometalate-templated Metal-Organic Frameworks

Abstract:
In order to enhance functionality of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs),
guest molecules such as polyoxometalates (POMs) could be occluded in the
pores. We have demonstrated the structure directing behaviour of
polyoxometalates (POMs) for the formation of MOFs at room temperature.
POMs help spatially organise metal ions on a molecular-level and cause
surface induced hydrolysis leading to the formation of Cu3BTC2 -type
metal organic frameworks. Various spectroscopic techniques such as  ESR,
SAXS, DLS, NMR and XANES conclusively prove the formation of dimeric
copper on POM surface. An overview on the templating mechanism of POMs
along with their potential application in catalysis, ion-exchange and
luminescence would be discussed.
